NM 30 and KM 32: the prefered catalysts

Sodium methylate 30 percent solution in methanol (NM 30) is the key component in the transesterification of vegetable oils.
Approximately two-thirds of the capacity of large-scale production plants (50,000 to 300,000 mt/y) is already set up for this catalyst. And the share is increasing.

Evonik provides the potassium methylate 32 percent solution in methanol (KM 32) especially for raw material with an FFA (free fatty acids) content higher than 1.0 percent, such as used cocking oil or animal fats.

Both catalysts can be used in production processes that operate under water-free conditions. They can be fed directly from the storage tank—in a closed circuit safe, easy, and quickly. This reduces handling risks to an absolute minimum.

Raw material requirements
Oil Preferably FFA content of max. 1% (0.1%) for NM 30
Preferably FFA content of over 1% for KM 32
Water content of max. 0.1% for NM 30 and KM 32
Methanol Water content of max. 0.1% for NM 30 and KM 32
